😫 Feeling Unseen? Get Noticed at Work the Right Way

Hello changemakers πŸ‘‹

This week's newsletter is all about what truly motivates you at work! πŸ’ͺ

We all know the feeling of a job well done, and the desire for recognition for our efforts. But what if your employer's idea of a reward isn't quite what gets you excited?

That’s exactly what happened to me a couple of years back, and it sucked. But the good news is, there are ways to bridge the gap and get the recognition that truly motivates you. So in this newsletter, I’ll share with you:

  • Why getting the right kind of recognition matters

  • How to identify what motivates YOU

  • Tips to communicate your needs to your manager

Let's dive in!

Feeling appreciated for your hard work is a powerful motivator. It boosts morale, increases engagement, and makes you want to go the extra mile. But a one-size-fits-all approach to rewards and recognition often falls flat.

Imagine this: you just finished a killer project and were hoping for a public shout-out from your manager. Instead, you get a gift card to a coffee shop you never go to. That would be disappointing, right?

Finding Your Motivation

The first step is to figure out what you find rewarding. Here are some questions to get you started:

  • What are your career goals?

  • When have you felt most motivated in the past? What made that situation rewarding?

  • How do you feel about public vs. private recognition?

Make a list of the things that make you feel excited and appreciated at work. This could be anything from a challenging project to a chance to work remotely.

Communicate Your Needs

Once you know what motivates you, talk to your manager! Let them know your goals and what kind of recognition would make you feel most valued.

Open communication is key! The more your manager understands what gets you pumped, the better they can reward you in a way that truly matters.

Provide Feedback

Let's be honest, sometimes managers miss the mark. If a reward falls flat, don't be afraid to offer some constructive feedback.

The key is to be polite and focus on the future. For example, instead of saying "Ugh, this gift card is useless," you could say, "I really appreciate the recognition, but in the future, I would be more motivated by the opportunity to lead the next big project."

By following these tips, you can help your employer understand what motivates you and ensure you get the recognition you deserve. Remember, a little effort can go a long way in keeping you feeling appreciated and engaged at work.
